Decorating Christmas Trees with Children and Pets

Christmas and Decoration

There are many things to consider if you have children and pets during the Christmas holiday and if you want to decorate a tree. These things include the types of bulbs used on the tree, the placement of the bulbs, a natural tree or an artificial one, and more.

The types of bulbs you use are very important when decorating artificial Christmas tree. The types of bulbs sold on the market today include glass bulbs and plastic bulbs. The traditional bulbs that have always been used and are the most popular to use today are the glass bulbs. These can actually be very dangerous for many reasons. It doesn’t matter if your tree is sitting on a carpeted area. When bulbs clang together or they fall from the tree they shatter. They also shatter when trying to put on the hooks for the tree too. Glass bulbs put your children at risk of being cut. The glass shards are also hard to clean up entirely out of a carpeted area and the cuts can be pretty bad in the feet too. The best bulbs to buy for the tree are the plastic bulbs. They will never break and you can use them over and over every year.

The placement of the bulbs on the artificial Christmas trees is another factor to consider. Cats love to play with balls. Bulbs hanging from a tree are just something for a cat to get tangled up into. Cats are known to knock down an entire tree and destroy the bulbs and the setup you have. This can be very frustrating. When you place the bulbs on a tree it is best to place them up high and not on the branches that are furthest down on the bottom. This is difficult though because smaller children who love to help decorate can only reach the bottom of the tree and they know which bulbs they put on. This is just another reason why you need to buy plastic bulbs for the tree this holiday season.

Another consideration during the holiday season with your tree is if you will buy real trees or artificial Christmas trees. Real trees tend to be a hazard if they dry out and if you put them in sugar water like most people do you might end up with a sick cat or dog. Sugar is the last thing your pet needs. This is why you might want to buy a fake tree this year instead of a real tree. In addition, a fake tree doesn’t have the fire hazard attached like a real tree does.

When decorating for the Christmas holiday it is important to consider the tree and the ornaments for the safety of your children and you pets. Plastic bulbs are better than glass so you don’t risk anyone getting cut. You should also use an artificial Christmas tree so you don’t have a sick pet from drinking the sugar water. These two solutions will ensure safety when you decorate for the holiday.
