Holidays are supposed to be a fun time at home. It is the time when family and friends gather to give thanks for everything that they have in this world and to reflect back on the years gone by and the future to come. It is a time of frivolity and enjoyment and often, without the proper planning it can be a time of disaster.
Around the holidays the family generally runs lots of lights and other electronic gadgets around the house and yard often overtaxing the electrical outlets in the home to the point that it becomes dangerous. Live trees tend to dry out and present fire hazards. There are any number of things that can happen to cause issues that can range from fires to electrocution but people rarely think abut that until it is too late and the worst has already happened.
People that are immigrating to our country and are attempting to get a US Green Card are often less diligent in preparation than the citizens who have lived here their entire life. Perhaps it is the joy of becoming a resident after going through United States Immigration and the USCIS that puts that joy in their hearts or maybe they are just likely to be less cautious because they are working on starting a new life in their new country.
Whatever the reason, people need to take the time from answering questions from the USCIS and make the home safer. Check for shorts in electric cords, stop worrying about the United States Immigration department and make sure there are proper loads on the outlets and that the power cords are not plugged like spaghetti. A US Green Card won’t mean much if there is a fire that causes death and destruction.
While safety should be a year round thing it seems to be brought to the forefront more during the reveling period that starts just before Thanksgiving and lasts until after New Years Eve. This is a very dangerous time when people pay more attention to the task of getting things looking good for guests and actually having parties than they do making sure everything is safe.
Extension cords present not only a fire danger but a trip and fall danger as well. This is especially true if there is alcohol at the gathering. Quite often people take a break from studying for the US Green Card from the USCIS that they don’t pay close attention to their surroundings. They are so tired of the United States Immigration process that the only thing in their immediate thoughts is to enjoy the family and relax.
While there is nothing wrong with setting back and unwinding and enjoying the many things that there are to be thankful for in the United States of America, it is important that safety remain a prime consideration for the folks that are out there enjoying themselves because most accidents do happen in or around the home where we are most comfortable.
